MVS1: City Orienteering 2015-2016
To strengthen knowledge and awareness on mental health, “City Orienteering 2015-2016” was held on 12th December, 2015 (Saturday). The purposes of the activity are to enhance Teens’ understanding on mental illness through interaction with person-in-recovery, reduce stigmatization and misconception on mental illnesses, and enhance the social inclusion.
120 teens and 81 people-in-recovery participated in this activity. Participants were divided into 42 groups, and each group consisted of Jardine Ambassadors, person-in-recovery, and teens. Participants discussed and decided the routes, then travelling to different locations including Fanling, Tai Po, University, Shatin and Tai Wai. They visited local scenes and historical buildings, took group photos, enjoyed special snacks and completed specific tasks. After the journey, they went back to the school and shared their experience with other groups.
This activity not only allowed teens to enhance their understanding on mental illnesses, but also provided an opportunity for service users to participate in social activities, thereby built up self-confidence through achieving tasks & social interactions, and to be included in the community.
