In order to raise the awareness of the students and provide proper information on mental illness, Health in Mind Programme organized an Introductory Workshop with hospital visit at Kwai Chung Hospital on 3^rd October, 2015 (Saturday). We are glad to have Mr Francis Woo, Senior Nursing Officer of Kwai Chung Hospital as the speaker of the workshop.

Mr. Woo introduced various types of common mental health disorders, and briefly explained the respective causes, symptoms and treatment methods. For better understanding of the mental illness from a patient perspective, Mr. LEE, a peer specialist who has recovered from certain mental disorders, was invited to come and share his personal experience, feelings while he suffered mental disorders, and the challenges he had on the way of recovery.

The workshop also included a visit in Kwai Chung Hospital, for the students to have a clear picture of the facilities and service provision by a mental health hospital, as well as the daily routine of a  patient before discharge. It debunked the myths about mental health hospital and the patients which mainly come from movies or TV shows.

According to the post-workshop questionnaire, 100% of students agreed the workshop could help them know more about mental disorders. In addition, all the students were satisfied with the workshop.
