On 30th November, 2013 (Sat), Health in Mind Programme organized the 2nd Mass Volunteer Service: Sports Day. Activity was held at Fung Kai No. 1 Secondary School, Sheung Shui. 104 students from 10 schools and 61 service users from 5 different halfway house and rehabilitation centre participated in this activity. There are 7 games in total, include rope skipping, plastic bottle bowling etc. All participants are divided into 20 groups. Students and users have to work together to finish different games and each team needs to compete with each other to win the race.
By the close interaction between service users and students during the day, students had more understanding on users’ ability. Service users are not the disabled, a group that needs special care and dangerous people inside society. They have ability to take care themselves and go back to society. What they need is acceptance, tolerate and remove the labels, all these are some basic needs. They only want people to treat them equally as normal citizen.
