OrientationCamp2018

Brief information

The Orientation Day Camp of Health in Mind – Youth Mental Health Programme (HIM Programme) 2018-2020 was successfully held on 22nd September 2018 (Sat) at Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong - Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village. 137 HIM Teens from 10 participating schools and 18 Jardine Ambassadors had joined this activity.

Ms. Sarina Drummond, Clinical Psychologist of Kwai Chung Hospital explained to the teens that although mental disorder is a common phenomenon, the misunderstanding on it often leads to stigmatization which prevented people from seeking assistance & early intervention, thus affect the recovery & inclusion in society. She debunked some common myths about mental disorder through MC quiz and shared with the Teens the vision and mission as the students’ ambassadors of Health in Mind Programme, the responsibility to raise the awareness on mental wellbeing in school and promote inclusion in the community. She pointed out some of the challenges that Teens might face while planning and organizing volunteer services, and practiced with the Teens different ways to tackle them. Teens also learnt how to communicate better and show their care to the person-in-recovery through role play.

We are honoured to have Dr T L LO, the Hospital Chief Executive of Kwai Chung Hospital to deliver welcome speech at the Opening Ceremony. A series of team building games after the opening ceremony to train up Teens’ problem solving skills and team spirit.

The orientation day camp is only the beginning of the HIM Programme. In the coming 2 years, teens would participate in a series of interactive workshops and volunteer services, to enhance knowledge on mental illness, to develop positive and caring attitude towards person in recovery, so as to promote mental wellness in school and to serve in the community, aiming to reduce stigma and enhance social inclusion.
