Workshop 1: Addiction
Brief information
To enhance adolescence’s awareness and understanding on addiction, "Health in Mind – Youth Mental Health Promotion Programme” organized workshop on Addiction on Saturday, 14th December 2013. It was honored to have Dr. CHEUNG Wai Him, Associate Consultant (Psy) of Kwai Chung Hospital, to be the speaker.
Through group discussion and presentation, Teens learned the common substance and behavior of addiction, and what are the differences between “addiction” & “habit”, as well as how to define “addiction”. Besides, through self-evaluation, students have a better understanding if they are affected by addiction. After group discussion, Dr. Cheung showed a series of photos, in order to deepen students’ understanding on the impacts and effects on addiction.
To fight for more points on group race, students participated and answered questions actively, the atmosphere was further enhanced.
After the short break, each group sent out representatives to perform a 3-minute drama on “how to prevent addiction”. Based on student’s performance and audience’s reaction, Dr. Cheung and Mr. Francis Woo, Senior Nursing Officer of Kwai Chung Hospital, rated on each group. Finally, Dr. Cheung summarized and presented the awards for the activity.
To evaluate the effectiveness of workshop, questionnaires were distributed to all participants. According to the result, all participants enjoyed the workshop. In addition, 98.1% of participants expressed the workshop was beneficial to them; while most of the participants (96.3%) satisfied with the workshop.
