Workshop 3: Human Library

Brief information

Health in Mind Programme organized the “Human Library” workshop at Kwai Chung Hospital on 17th November, 2018 (Saturday) and at Newman Catholic College on 19th January, 2019 (Saturday). We are glad to have invited Peer Specialists from New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service for in-depth sharing on their way of recovery to 92 teens, in small group of 5 each.

Through interactive warm up games with person-in-recovery, Teens understood that person-in-recoveries are just normal people like us, and there is no need to label them in our daily lives. Teens learnt how to work on an inclusive environment in the community.

Besides, peer specialists shared their pathway from having mental illness, treatment, recovery, and return to community. Through the sharing of their personal experience, Teens gained much insight on the cause of illness, importance of seeking help and valuable support from families and friends. At the end of the workshop, teens paired up with peer specialists to discuss the hot topic of establishing Integrated Community Centre for Mental Wellness in residential area. They later wrote some messages to encourage person-in-recovery when facing difficulties on their recovery path.

According to the post-workshop questionnaire, 94.7% of students thought the workshop could help them know more about mental health knowledge, and 95.9% of students were satisfied with the workshop.
