Workshop 3: Human Library
Brief information
Health in Mind Programme organized the “Human Library” workshop at The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong - Cornwall School on 3rd February, 2018 (Saturday) and at Christ College on 3rd March, 2018 (Saturday). We are glad to have Peer Specialists from various NGOs for in-depth sharing on their way of recovery to 81 teens, in small group of 5 each.
Stigmatizations and discrimination to person-in-recovery was introduced at the beginning of workshop. Especially Teens learnt to pay attention to their words and approach when interacting with person-in-recovery, during volunteer service.
Besides, peer specialists shared their pathway from having mental illness, treatment, recovery, and return to community. Through the sharing of their personal experience, Teens gained much insights on the cause of illness, importance of seeking help and valuable support from families and friends. At the end of the workshop, teens worked with peer specialists to decorate human-shape foam boards to show the strengths of person-in-recovery, the challenges they faced and the support that we can give.
According to the post-workshop questionnaire, 94.7% of students agreed the workshop could help them know more about mental health knowledge, and 95.9% of students satisfied with the workshop.
