Workshop 2: Self Image and Eating Disorder

Brief information

Workshop 2: Self Image and Eating Disorder was held on 10th March 2012 (Saturday) at Caritas Jockey Club Lai King Rehabilitation Centre. Dr Marie Antoinette LEE, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, The University of Hong Kong, was invited to be our speaker on Self Image and Eating Disorder. Around 150 students and teachers participated.

Through interactive presentation and games, speaker guided students for self-reflection, strengthened adolescents’ ability on independent thinking; evaluated the widespread popular culture of “Slim equal to beauty” in the society. Students realized the real “beauty” is not just equal to good looking appearance; speaker also encouraged them to think what self-image is from different perspectives. In additions, speaker analyzed common misconception on eating disorder, which enabled students to identify and understand more in this aspect.

According to the results of workshop survey, majority (97.7%) of participants enjoyed the workshop. Furthermore, all participants expressed the content of workshop was beneficial to them.
