City Orienteering
Brief information
To strengthen adolescences’ knowledge and awareness on mental health, “City Orienteering 2013” was held on 26th January, 2013 (Saturday). The purposes of the activity are to enhance Teens’ understanding on mental illness through direct interaction with person with mental illness; reduce stigmatization and misconception on mental illnesses, enhance integration in our community.
131 students from participating schools and 49 ex-mentally ill persons participated in this activity. All participants were divided into 49 groups (each group consisted of one Jardine Ambassadors, one ex-mentally ill person, and 2-3 secondary school students).
The starting point was at Kwai Chung Hospital, in order to complete the specific task at each checkpoint; participants have to travel to different checkpoints in Tsuen Wan, Mei Foo, Sham Shui Po, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Hom and Kowloon Tong to complete the tasks including identify the location of Olympic torch at the Avenue of Stars, taking group photo at Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower, searching answer at Jao Tsung Academy etc., and finally back to Kwai Chung Hospital before 3:30pm.
The activity not only allowed students to enhance understanding on mental illnesses, but also provided an opportunity for service users to participate in social activities, thereby built up self-confidence, and to integrate into the community.
